Using up leftover crayons

by Louise on 18 February, 2010

I had seen posts from a number of people on how they’d melted down their old crayons to make big chunky new ones (in muffin tins) and since we had an ice-cream container full of broken pieces of crayons I decided to give this a go.
There are lots of sites with tutorials – here is a link to one

I didn’t have as much success as I’d hoped. They looked fantastic in the tin but most of them cracked even before I tipped them out of the tin and I also found that the cheaper quality crayons had melted towards the top creating a layer of wax which seemed to have no colour in it.

Next time I would only use quality crayons but I don’t know how to prevent the cracking.
These looked pretty but in the end I threw most of them out.
