Isabella’s First Week

by Louise on 26 June, 2010

Baby Isabella is one week old already!

When we saw the Midwife on Friday and weighed Isabella we found she has gained back the 300g she lost during her first few days, plus an extra 100g.
I am still struggling to get her to latch on and breastfeed and hoping that she will soon.  We’ve been trying to get a lactation consultant to come and give us some advice but it is proving rather difficult getting help from the community lactation consultants (who are publicly funded) and there are no private lactation consultants would you believe it?

Kris went back to work during school hours on Thursday and Friday and we have one week left of school and then the holidays for two weeks.  Thankfully Kris is able to get the kids ready for school in the mornings and drop them off on his way to work and I am hoping he will take a week off during the holidays.

I don’t feel quite ready to be out and about with Isabella due to the feeding issues (and the cold wet weather) so hopefully I will make it to school to pick up my children this week!

Miriam would love to get out and about a bit more but has been very good.  She loves her baby sister, “she’s my best friend” and wants to pick her up.  I told her we needed to be careful with Baby Bella and not hurt her. Miriam said, “we don’t want to break her……we would have to fix her”.

We’ve had lots of lovely meals provided to us from church families over the last week or which we have been very grateful to receive (even if we were given Shepherd’s pie four times).
